Invite summer into your holiday home
If you have a long list of renovations and upgrades planned, that you never quite get to, then read on for some simple ways to revamp your beach house, before arriving for your next summer holiday. Remember – bright blue skies, summer blooms and a fresh ocean breeze shouldn’t just be for the outdoors!
1. Open Up
There’s nothing better than the “life is so simple” feeling that you can only get from spending a few relaxing days at a summer beach house, with family and friends. To create this feeling, try to make each room appear and feel as spacious as possible. Large, open windows, big mirrors, light curtains, and neutral colour sofas and cushions, are the easiest way to achieve this.
2. Bedding
If changing the whole look of a room isn’t in your budget for this year or you simply won’t have enough time, creating a fresh and new look for your room can be as simple as choosing new summer bedding.
Select neutral colours that can be paired with pretty cushions or throws. If you prefer patterns, consider colours that match the season and are on the lighter side, or a neutral nautical inspired navy. Place a blanket or throw at the foot of the bed within easy reach to keep you cosy when the occasional cool breeze comes sweeping through.
3. Keep it Fresh
With a farmer’s market around every corner these days, there is no excuse to not have a fresh stack of fruits and veggies in your home. When going for your Saturday morning coffee at the market, fill your basket with a variety of healthy and bright produce and display it in summer bowls or glass jars. If there aren’t enough fruit lovers in the house, place some fresh herbs in the window kitchen sill, or use lemons and limes as a table centrepiece – they’re lovely to have on display and are always a great addition in those sundowner gin and tonics!
4. Roll out a summer rug
Bringing in a different colour or texture is one of the easiest ways to change the look of a room, and a summer rug is the best way to do this.
Neutral-coloured rugs will immediately make a room appear bigger and brighter, but if you have a bunch of kids and pets that will be running around with sandy feet and ice creams, then cool blue shades or even geometrics or florals can do the trick.
5. Go Floral
There’s nothing like the look and smell of fresh flowers to brighten up a home and create an instant summer feeling. Pick one or three spots with enough light and space, and head over to the nursery to find out what will work best indoors. For a special touch, choose a stylish ceramic pot to put your plants in.
After waiting the whole year for summer, don’t let it go by without making the most of the warm, sunny months in your beautiful beach home!
